Meet Trisha Perlman: GPA President Q&A

When Trisha Perlman, Graland's newest GPA president, and her husband, Jake, were searching for a school for their daughters, they knew they wanted a place that would instill a genuine love of learning while nurturing and supporting their girls as individuals. Upon discovering Graland, they never looked back. Eleanor, now in Grade 7, began her Graland journey in Kindergarten in 2017, with Caroline, now in Grade 4, joining her for Preschool in 2018.
"We chose Graland because it provided the safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment we sought, along with a strong sense of community," Trisha said. "We all love the various events, trips, and activities. Whether it's an exciting overnight trip, a challenging hike up Chief Mountain, the laughter shared at the Carnival, or the joy on Donut Day, there's always something fun happening."

As the GPA president for the 2024-25 school year, Trisha looks forward to leading and coordinating even more memorable events that bring the Graland community together. Continue reading to learn more about Trisha and her plans for the upcoming school year!
 
Q: Where did you grow up, and what brought you to Colorado?
A: "I'm from North Dakota and moved to Colorado for college. It's felt like home for the last 30 years, and I definitely don't miss those North Dakota winters!"
 
Q: What inspired you to volunteer for the GPA, and what was your experience like?
A: "I started by volunteering in the classroom and enjoyed getting to know other children in Eleanor's grade. My involvement with the GPA and Graland community began when another parent asked me to co-chair an event. Since then, I've had so much fun and met many wonderful people. The GPA volunteers and Jeri Volpe have fostered a fun, welcoming, and impactful community, which has taught me the importance of invitations in building a sense of belonging."
 
Q: What advice would you give to new families at Graland?
A: "Attend as many events and get as involved as your schedule allows. Additionally, subscribe to the Graland WebCal feed to stay updated on all the fantastic GPA and school events!"
 
Q: What are you looking forward to as GPA President this year?
A: "I'm excited to welcome new and familiar faces at GPA meetings and events. I'm also eager for the incredible events that our GPA volunteers are already working hard to organize for the 2024-25 school year."
 
Q: What might people not know about the GPA?
A: "Everyone automatically becomes a part of the GPA when they begin their Graland journey, and they are welcome to attend and support as much as they can!"
 
Q: Why should community members attend a GPA meeting?
A: "GPA meetings provide opportunities to meet new people and hear about exciting school community updates. I always learn something new from faculty speakers and student presenters. Plus, you don't want to miss the delicious scones!"
 
Q: Which upcoming events should everyone be excited about this year?
A: "All of them! But a great way to kick off the year is by attending Movie Night on August 15, back-to-school nights with parent gatherings in September, and the Graland Gallop on September 22."
 
Q: What is your favorite Graland tradition and why?
A: "I love the Graland Gallop 5K and fun run. It's an event the whole family can participate in while enjoying time outdoors and connecting with the Graland community."
 
Q: What is your favorite GPA memory?
A: "It's hard to choose just one! Mostly, it's the connections made with parent volunteers, faculty, and kids."
 
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
A: "I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and engaging in almost any outdoor activity, especially in the mountains. I've recently taken up gravel biking and appreciate a fantastic cup of coffee."
