Grade 3: Constitutional Convention

Third graders studying government processes tried their hands at writing bills for this month's Constitutional Convention. Junior lawmakers paired up to design bills addressing something at Graland that could be changed to benefit the student body. After narrowing down the options to two from each class, the entire third grade took to the polls, where two bills were determined the winners in a tie for most votes.

Congratulations to these students and their winning bills:
1. Ginna Jacoby and Oliver Wichern proposed that the Gates Invention and Innovation Program should start in third grade instead of fifth grade.

2. Anne Hawley and Charlie May proposed that students be allowed to bring sack lunches to school.

Head of School Ronni McCaffrey attended to discuss the bills. She promised to consult with other campus leaders about each bill's merits before deciding whether to sign or veto the ideas.

"I'm so glad to see you are going through the process of introducing bills because one of our goals at Graland is to see you become engaged citizens in our world," she told students. "The ability to vote is a precious right once you turn 18, and you can start now to read and listen to the news so you can form opinions about current events."
