Bilingual educators from the Denver Zoo visited third grade Spanish class this week to share information about animals that are native to Colorado. It was the culminating event in the Grade 3 Colorado wildlife unit that also included projects made on the green screen.

They brought with them three animals that were at first concealed from view. Before each animal was revealed, students had to ask questions in Spanish and try to guess the species. The three animals were a prairie dog, salamander and barn owl named Casper.

"I found out that a prairie dog's skull is a lot smaller than I thought," says Sam Cheroutes.

Olivia Saavedra adds, "The salamander was slimy, not scaly like a reptile. Also, I didn't know owls made a chirping noise."
