Artists Recognized at Induction Ceremony

Monday’s assembly got our week off to a creative start when the entire school was inspired by 34 new pieces of art inducted into Graland’s Permanent Art Collection. Works were created during the 2015-16 school year and were selected based on a high level of skill, a creative composition and a unique approach to ideas presented in class.

The Permanent Art Collection at Graland began in 1977 with the idea that excellent student art work should be recognized, displayed well and hung throughout the school. Student Heidi Lasher kicked off the collection with her watercolor painting of a daffodil and art teacher Cathy Naughton used a broken window from the original Georgia Nelson building and scrap wood from the old wood shop to have the historic piece framed. Today, there are well over 1,500 pieces of student art displayed throughout Graland.
