Grade 2: Accordion Fold Art

Second graders in Ms. Cheadle’s class visited art teacher Andrea Crane this week for a lesson in accordion fold art. The process takes two drawn pictures depicting related scenes and merges them into one piece of art. Students used pencil and crayon for their drawings.

After learning about the concepts and steps, Darcy Bloomberg decided to draw a horse in one scene and apples and hay in the other. “Horses are my favorite animal,” she explains, “and they eat apples and hay!” Other students were considering tree houses and soccer themes.

“This is a good way to get them drawing so I can assess their drawing skills,” Andrea says. The art pieces are expected to take several sessions to complete.
