Kindergarten Learns About Measurement With Help From Fourth Graders

This November, Kindergarten students had a fun, hands-on math lesson focused on measurement! With the help of expert fourth graders, each Kindergartener was traced on a large piece of paper. The goal? To learn about non-standard units of measurement!
After being traced, the Kindergarteners worked with their fourth-grade partners to measure the length of their outlines using everyday objects. The students were encouraged to think outside the box and find items around the classroom—like books, Magna Tiles, and other creative tools—to measure the length of their traced bodies. This activity helped the young mathematicians understand that measurements don’t always have to come from rulers or tape measures.

A big thank you to our fourth graders for being such wonderful math buddies and to all the Kindergarteners for their curiosity and creativity. Keep up the fantastic work, Kindergarten Mathematicians!
