Math Meets Holiday Cheer: Grade 7 Students Create Festive 3D Decorations

In Grade 7 math with Mr. Gregory Montoya, students combined math concepts with holiday cheer to create decorations for the Winter Wishes celebration.
They began by designing a "net"—a flat, two-dimensional pattern that, when folded, forms a 3D shape like a cube or pyramid. This exercise helped students understand how 2D shapes can be transformed into 3D objects. It also gave them the opportunity to practice calculating the surface area and volume of these shapes. Once their nets were folded into 3D shapes, students filled them with candy, making the project both educational and festive. These math-based creations will decorate the Winter Wishes assembly, showcasing students' learning in a fun and creative way.
