Grade 4: New Intramural Sports Unit in Daily PE Classes

This November, fourth graders got to experience a new intramural sports unit in their daily PE classes.
According to athletic director, coach, and PE teacher Monica Johnson, "This year, the PE department created an intramural sports unit that correlates with the weeks that fall between Middle School sports seasons. This gives younger students in Grades 4 & 5 the opportunity to choose a sport they might enjoy and play tournament style with a mix of peers from their grade level. Students got the opportunity to play sports like ultimate frisbee, flag football, speedball, soccer, basketball, and floor hockey. The idea is to get kids excited about the choices they will have as Middle School athletes and create a fun atmosphere where all students can feel comfortable in a competitive environment. We want every student to come to Middle School knowing that there is a place for them in the Graland athletics program. I love that this unit gives kids choices as well as the opportunity to self-monitor their games. It's very empowering!" Great job embracing new experiences, fourth graders!
